Fast & Furious 11 (2025): Release Date CONFIRMED, What You NEED To Know!

Fast X’s cliffhanger did not work, and a possible Fast & Furious 11 delay would make it even worse. The Fast and Furious franchise has had many opportunities to conclude the saga, especially with Fast Five and Furious 7. Despite each new installment finding a way for Dominic Toretto’s family to return to action, Fast X was originally announced as the first of a two-part story that would conclude the Fast Saga. Whether Fast & Furious 12 will happen remains to be seen, but the upcoming Fast 11 has quite a few challenges to overcome first.

Fast X grossed $714, 6 million at the box office, which would have been a strong result if not for the movie’s reported budget of $340 million. The latest Fast and Furious film also grossed less than its predecessor, F9, which was released during a pandemic context. Between the complicated box office run and the poor critical performance, Fast X was far from an ideal “Part 1” movie, making things much more difficult for Fast 11Fast 11 is set for an April 4, 2025 release, but Jason Momoa recently revealed he hasn’t read a script yet (via Variety).

A Long Gap Between Fast & Furious 10 & 11 Hurts The Cliffhanger Ending

If Fast 11 makes it to its planned release date, it will arrive in theaters a little less than two years after Fast X – a solid window for what should be a two-part story. However, anything more than that would play against the idea of Fast X’s cliffhanger ending leading right into the next movie. Fast X was heavily marketed as the beginning of a larger story that would be concluded in Fast 11, even leading to comparisons between the Fast and Furious finale and The Avengers’ Infinity Saga conclusion.

Fast X was supposed to be the “Avengers: Infinity War” of Fast and Furious, with the heroes losing at the end but returning to defeat the big bad in the next installment. However, for this strategy to work, there cannot be a very long gap between Fast X and Fast 11. To put things in perspective, Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War were released one year apart. If Fast 11 doesn’t release in Summer 2025, the already divisive cliffhanger ending will make even less sense. In theory, Fast 11 should pick up right where Fast X left things off.

A Fast & Furious 11 Delay Would Defeat The Point Of A Two-Part Story

The point of a two-part story is to lead one movie’s ending right into the beginning of the next one, often with a relatively short wait between the two entries, thus creating an organic anticipation for the sequel. Although Infinity War and Endgame represent the most successful use of this strategy to this day, many other franchises have also used it – from Harry Potter and The Hunger Games to Mission Impossible. Two-part releases do not always work, but the ones that do usually don’t have a long gap between the two films.

At this point, doubling down on the two-part story angle might play against the next Fast and Furious movie.

Two-part movies also tend to be filmed all at once, or at least have some portions of the second installment filmed concurrently with the first. This was not the case for Fast X, which went through a complicated production and lost its original director, Justin Lin, a week into production. Fast and Furious’ two-part finale problem becomes even worse considering that Fast X’s ending, which was supposed to be a major cliffhanger, does not have any sense of stakes. In a franchise where dead characters keep coming back, it’s difficult to believe Dom and his son are in danger.

Why A Fast & Furious 11 Delay Could Be A Good Thing

Fast X did not live up to the expectations, neither critically nor financially. As such, with a poorly received cliffhanger and no immediate release of part two, a potential Fast & Furious 11 delay could be a good thing. At this point, doubling down on the two-part story angle might play against the next Fast and Furious movie. Fast X was not nearly good enough to leave audiences wanting more, and even self-contained films in the Fast Saga did a better job of setting up bigger, bolder sequels.

Fast & Furious has built a massive franchise over 20 years and it’s set to keep expanding even after the final film thanks to these spin-offs.

A potential delay could help Fast 11 set itself apart from Fast X. In terms of box office, it may be better for the next film to be treated as its own rather than a direct sequel to a poorly received movie. Naturally, Fast 11 will be tied to Fast X regardless, as Dante Reyes will still be looking for revenge. How the recently announced Hobbs spinoff movie will tie into everything following Dwayne Johnson’s return during Fast X’s post-credits scene may also play a role in how Fast & Furious 11 will connect to the rest of this extended finale
