Tomorrowland Up in Smoke: Fire Guts Iconic Main Stage Just Days Before Festival Kickoff

A towering inferno broke out Wednesday at the heart of Tomorrowland, the world’s largest electronic dance music festival, engulfing its legendary main stage in flames just 48 hours before opening day. The blaze erupted in Boom, Belgium—Tomorrowland’s home since 2005—sending plumes of thick black smoke into the sky, visible as far away as Brussels, over 16 miles from the site.

Festival organizers confirmed the fire “severely damaged” the Orbyz main stage, a centerpiece of the event known for its extravagant visuals and pyrotechnics. Videos flooding social media captured fireballs, explosions, and even fireworks going off amid the chaos—turning what should’ve been final setup preparations into an unexpected crisis.

Miraculously, no injuries were reported. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown as of Thursday. With more than 400,000 attendees expected from over 200 countries, uncertainty now looms over the festival’s signature experience.

Despite the destruction, organizers say the show will go on. The festival, set to begin Friday, has not been canceled, and officials promised further updates “as soon as possible.” No other areas or stages were impacted by the blaze.
