Cold sores: causes and recommendations

Cold sores, also known as cold sores, are small, painful blisters that appear on the lips or around the mouth. While herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is the main culprit, stress is often a trigger.

Why does stress cause lip bumps?

When you’re stressed, your immune system weakens, allowing the herpes virus, which remains dormant in the body, to reactivate and cause rashes.

Home remedies to combat cold sores:

Cold compresses:  Applying cold compresses to the affected area several times a day can significantly reduce inflammation and pain.
Aloe vera:  Aloe vera gel has many beneficial properties for the skin, including anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that help reduce rashes and soothe pain in the affected area, in this case, the lips. Apply a small amount directly to the rash several times a day.
Tea tree oil:  This essential oil has antiviral and antibacterial properties. Dilute a few drops in coconut oil and apply it to the rash.
Lip balm with sunscreen:  This is very important for people with this condition, as it protects your lips from the sun; sun exposure can worsen cold sores.
Foods rich in lysine:  Lysine is an amino acid that helps prevent and treat herpes outbreaks. To get this amino acid, simply include foods like fish, chicken, eggs, and legumes in your diet.
Relaxation techniques:  Practice relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga, or deep breathing to reduce stress.

Adequate rest:  Make sure you get your eight hours of sleep daily, as sleep helps strengthen your immune system.
When to see a doctor:

If the rash is very painful or persists for more than two weeks.
If you have a fever or symptoms of infection.
If you have a weakened immune system.
