Myles Garrett set up camera gear on the side of an Olympic halfpipe to capture his girlfriend’s historic run.
The NFL’s single-season sacks record holder traveled to Livigno, Italy, to support Chloe Kim as she chases her third consecutive Olympic gold medal. Before Kim took her first run in Wednesday’s qualifying, Garrett hiked up the side of the halfpipe to film the entire performance.
Kim qualified first with a score of 90.25, setting up Thursday night’s final where she can make snowboarding history.
What They’ve Accomplished
- Garrett’s sacks record: 23 (broke it January 4, 2026)
- Previous record holders: Michael Strahan (22.5 in 2001), T.J. Watt (22.5 in 2021)
- Garrett’s DPOY wins: 2 (2023, 2026)
- 2026 DPOY vote: Unanimous – all 50 first-place votes
- Garrett’s other 2025 stats: 33 TFL, 84 pressures, 39 QB hits, 3 forced fumbles
- Kim’s Olympic golds: 2 (PyeongChang 2018, Beijing 2022)
- Kim’s qualifying rank: 1st place, 90.25 score
- Final date: February 12, 2026, 7:30 PM local time
- Historic opportunity: First 3-peat in snowboard halfpipe history
Garrett Captured the Whole Run
“I got her whole run,” Garrett said after Kim qualified first into Thursday night’s halfpipe final. “She’s amazing.”
The 29-year-old Browns defensive end made the trip to Italy during the NFL offseason, just weeks after winning his second Defensive Player of the Year award. The unanimous vote—50 first-place votes—confirmed his status as the league’s premier defender.
Garrett and Kim cuddled up in the friends and family area at the bottom of the pipe after the contest. They joked about who could lay claim to the greater sports supremacy.
The Playful Debate
“Me,” Kim said when asked who’s better.
“You’re better than me?” Garrett responded.
Garrett broke the NFL’s longstanding single-season sacks record in January with 23 sacks, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt.
“I’m funnier than you,” Kim countered.
“I’ll give her that,” Garrett said. “She’s funnier.”
“But who’s better-better?” Chloe asked.
“I’ll let everyone else decide that,” he said.
How Garrett Made History
The record-breaking moment came with 5:17 left in the fourth quarter of the season finale against the Cincinnati Bengals. Garrett lined up at defensive tackle, then blitzed as an off-ball linebacker before using his fastest get-off of the season—0.23 seconds—to swim past left tackle Orlando Brown Jr. and sack Joe Burrow.
It marked the 12th time Garrett has sacked Burrow, breaking a tie with Lamar Jackson for the most times Garrett has taken down a quarterback.
Garrett had recorded at least half a sack in nine straight games before his streak ended in Week 17. That included a five-sack performance against the New England Patriots in Week 9—a career high and Browns record—as well as a four-sack showing against the Ravens in Week 11.
The Browns finished 5-12 despite Garrett’s historic season. An offense that ranked 31st in scoring failed to take advantage of the defense’s strengths.
Kim’s Dominant Qualifying
The 25-year-old snowboarder’s participation in Milano Cortina 2026 was uncertain following a shoulder dislocation in January. She showed no signs of injury Wednesday.
“I feel good. Happy to be here,” Kim told Olympics.com. “There is definitely a lot of pressure, but I believe the Olympics are incredibly special due to the immense global support we receive.”
Kim commenced her first run with a graceful backside 720, followed by the first 1080 of the qualification phase. Her score of 90.25 placed her comfortably at the top.
She outperformed Japan’s Shimizu Sara (87.50), U.S. teammate Maddie Mastro (86.00), Japan’s Judo Rise (84.75), and South Korea’s Choi Gaon (82.25).
The History Kim Can Make
Shaun White was at Livigno Snow Park watching Kim chase his legacy. The legendary snowboarder claimed three Olympic gold medals in the halfpipe—Turin 2006, Vancouver 2010, and PyeongChang 2018.
But Kim can do something even White never achieved: win three consecutive Olympic halfpipe titles. “She’s going to do it,” Garrett said. “She’s the best.”
The final takes place February 12 at 19:30 CET / 1:30 PM ET.
