Hulk Hogan, Wrestling Icon and Pop Culture Giant, Dies at 71 in Florida

The world of professional wrestling and pop culture has lost a true titan. Hulk Hogan, the legendary performer whose explosive charisma, trademark bandana, and iconic shirt-ripping antics helped launch professional wrestling into the global spotlight, has died at age 71.

Authorities in Clearwater, Florida, confirmed that emergency crews responded to a cardiac arrest call at Hogan’s home around 9:51 a.m. on Thursday. He was transported to Morton Plant Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away,” the wrestling organization announced. “One of pop culture’s most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s.”

Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan transcended the wrestling ring, becoming a cultural phenomenon. His larger-than-life persona took him from WWE stardom to Hollywood screens, including a memorable role in Rocky III where he squared off with Sylvester Stallone’s iconic boxer.

In the mid-2000s, Hogan’s life moved to reality TV with Hogan Knows Best, a VH1 series offering a glimpse into the personal lives of the Hogan family. But the show came to an abrupt end in 2007 following a tragic car accident involving his son Nick and a subsequent divorce from his wife of over 20 years, Linda.
